1 cup of brown sugar
1/2 tbsp of vanilla
1 large egg
coarse flaky salt, optional
supplies:
stainless steel skillet
spatula
heat resistant bowl
2 mixing bowls

cookie scoop
cookie sheet
parchment paper
directions:
to brown the butter: over medium-low heat, heat your stainless steel skillet with the butter. slowly let the butter melt, and then brown. this can take up to 15 minutes. the butter will foam right before turning brown, so watch it carefully so you don’t burn the butter. once browned, pour the butter into a heat resistant bowl and cool to room temperature before mixing up the dough.
to make the cookies: preheat the oven to 350 degrees. in a bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda. in another bowl beat together the butter and brown sugar. add the vanilla and egg, and beat for about 2 minutes. next, add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, and mix for another 30 seconds, until just blended together. scoop the cookies onto a parchment lined cookie sheet and top with coarse salt, if desired. bake the cookies for about 12-13 minutes. let cool for 1-2 minutes on the cookie sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, or serve warm.
