churro french toast sticks w/ chocolate maple dipping sauce
ingredients:
french toast sticks:
1 cup of heavy cream
2 large eggs
1 tsp of pure vanilla
1 tsp of warm spice mix or cinnamon
1/2 tbsp of butter, for cooking; more as needed
5 thick slices of brioche bread, cut into 4 strips each (for 20 sticks)
churro topping:
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 tbsp of cinnamon
chocolate maple sauce:
1/4 cup of chocolate chips
1/2 cup of pure maple syrup
supplies:
2 mixing bowls
non-stick skillet
wire rack
microwave safe small serving bowl
directions:
in a shallow dish, mix the cream, eggs, vanilla + warm spice mix or cinnamon together well. set aside.
mix up the churro topping in a bowl, and set aside.
heat a non-stick skillet, over medium heat. once heated, melt the butter in the pan.
while the pan heats/butter melts, dip the sticks into the cream/egg mixture, letting it soak for about 5 seconds on each side. once soaked, place the sticks into the pan + let it cook unbothered for 2-3 minutes each side. do not crowd your pan and add more butter as needed for cooking.
once each stick is cooked, immediately dip into the churro topping, ensuring all sides of each stick is covered. then place the sticks on a wire rack and repeat until all the sticks are made. if desired, you can keep them warm in a 200 degree oven. serve with the chocolate maple dipping sauce.
to make the chocolate maple dipping sauce, add the chocolate chips and maple syrup to a microwave safe bowl. microwave for 45 seconds or until the chocolate has melted. mix well to combine and serve immediately.
